[California] Dr ordered me diagnostic tests. I decided to cancel 2 of the tests and only got 1 from her office. I will get the other 2 tests tomorrow at another lab. Is this a good move? Are cost estimates accurate through my insurance page? I have more questions.

So my doctor ordered me a routine blood test; I requested for Vitamin D and lead poisoning test too; my lease states there is lead in the building which I have been in for 10 years.

I figured the routine blood test would be free due to insurance so I had it done at the lab where my doctor is located at (they send it to LabCorp). I realized the vitamin D and lead poisoning test is not going to be covered by insurance.

With the cost estimator that is connected to my insurance, I am getting the following estimates:

vitamin D test my PCP’s lab $75 out-of-pocket Quest Diagnostics $9 out-of-pocket lead test my PCP’s lab $184 out-of-pocket Quest diagnostics $21 out-of-pocket

ALSO, part of the “routine blood test” has an LDL test…. how come my cost estimator shows it would be $64 out-of-pocket with through my doctor’s office!? Shouldn’t this be free? It’s always been part of my routine blood test. Quest is showing $7.

This calculator seems to be using my actual insurance benefits to make these estimates.
