Caught between a rock and a hard place. Advice?

Hello good people of reddit,

I find myself in quite a conundrum.

Age 32 + baby 8month Income 140k+

I live in New Jersey with my wife and 8 month old baby. My wife gets insurance through her employer. I am self employed (LLC) and I pay for my own insurance plan though Oscar Health, which is an ACA insurance. My baby is on my plan, because the coverage is similar and cost is less than the extra premium to add to my wife’s insurance.

Now, I had a billing issue back in November last year when my debit card was replaced, and my auto pay was disrupted for my premium. I sent the payment but forgot to re-enable auto pay… My account went 2 months without being paid, and they sent me emails about this which unfortunately went to my spam inbox so I missed them. I didn’t get any calls or letters until the other day I got mail saying my policy was terminated and I should call them.

I called, but since the letter arrived late, I could not reinstate my account, being past the 15 day grace period. Also, the open enrollment period has ended so I cannot enroll in a new account. I also do not meet any “life changing events” for a special enrollment period. My income is too high for Medicaid or whatever else the government could provide.

The NJ government has also made all the short term and private health insurance or non ACA insurance illegal, so I can’t find any alternatives. I spent hours on the phone with the NJ gov health portal, but since enrollment is over, and I don’t meet the special enrollment requirements (divorce, loss of job, etc) I literally cannot get coverage or apply for any insurance that’s allowed in my state.

The worst part of all this, is that next year I will pay a tax penalty for not having health insurance that I am unable to enroll in… ($1500-$3500)

I pushed my original insurance (Oscar) many times, through several escalation managers and supervisors but they told me that enrollments and account reinstatements are strictly regulated and their hands are tied…

I understand I have made a mistake in letting my payments lapse, but I find this outrageous that my 8 month old daughter and I need to go without coverage now until next year!

Well, if anyone bothered to read this mess this far… Is there any meaningful advice to be had?

I found one option Medi-Share which sounds great but reviews are terrible. Beyond that I am at a total loss here.

Thanks so much for your time reading this.
