So my last day was this month so my current benefits run until the end of the month. I understand this is a qualifying event to apply for new health insurance but I understand the event doesn’t trigger until the benefits are gone even though I need new benefits to start on May 1. I’m a type 1 diabetic so its important that I have benefits next month.
When applying for a health plan it says it will start May 1st but I haven’t submitted my application yet because I don’t want to get dinged for applying without my current benefits gone yet. Is it fine to apply now even though benefits run until the end of the month?
