Claim denied, 26k bill, bcbs says to file an appeal, but then what?

I went to the ER, doctor suggested I stay a night. Ambulance ride to our other hospital. 1 night turned into 8 nights. Few weeks later I check my claims and the largest bill has been denied due to needing pre approval. I’ve call bcbs about 3 times. First time the hospital still had things pending and to wait. Same thing for the 2nd attempt. The 3rd attempt the bcbs rep reached out for my medical records and had a 30 day billing hold place. Few weeks past and I reached out to bcbs live chat asking for an update. They said the denied is firm and to file an appeal. I may be looking at a 26k bill. After my appeal attempts what options are left? I’m in the process of purchasing a home and can’t have a 26k medical bill ruin my perfect credit.
