So my spouse left her job 10/15, healthcare was valid for another 30 days through 11/14.
I stupidly thought about the 30 day qualifying event applying from day of loss of healthcare insurance and not day when job was lost.
So long story short I couldn’t start health insurance under my employer until 1/1/22 (doing open enrollment now).
So here is my question. I have 60 days to activate Cobra. The company just sent out papers on 11/17 about Cobra.
If we have a big event on say 12/15 and I end up in the hospital then activate Cobra which is within the 60 day period – would this apply retroactively or from date I activated it?
I am told her company had 60days to send out Cobra paperwork so it seems like you should be able to activate it retroactively
Appreciate any advice / input!!!
