Delta dental insurance question

Hello all. I’m looking for some advice as to how to proceed with a situation I’m in with my insurance provider and an endodontist office. I currently have a delta dental ppo insurance plan provided to me through my employer. Back in November 2020, I needed to get a root canal done so I went to an endodontist who my wife, who is also on my coverage, went to previously to get work done, so I knew they were in network. When I arrived, they calculated my expense for the procedure with my insurance coverage, collected payment, and performed my root canal. Fast forward to August of this year. I receive a bill for $1100 from the endodonitst office. I immediately called and spoke with the office manager who explained the issue as this: Their business has a few locations which several endodontists practice at. All of the endodontists at all of their locations are are within the delta denta network…or so they thought. Some issue happened between the office I went to and delta dental and the endodontist I saw at this particular location was no longer within the delta network at this location, but was at the other locations. They endodontist office did not know if this issue until earlier this year. Their office is currently trying to sort this out with delta dental, but in the meantime is requesting payment. At the time of my appointment, I was under the assumption that they accepted my insurance because of how they calculated my payment. Had I known this, I would have requested another doctor.

So my question is this: am I still responsible for this bill? What do I need to do/who do I need to contact to get this all sorted out?
