Did I mess myself up without realizing with the marketplace?

So, I may have been eligible for health insurance last year through my employer without even knowing and since I wasn’t aware, I didn’t sign up during the eligibility period they have. I did insurance through the marketplace, and now I’m scared that without knowing, I now will have to pay back every bit of subsidiaries that I used up during last year. I called the Marketplace and they said currently there’s no notes about that in my records and I received my 1095-A. If I really did screw up though and find out later, do I really need to pay back almost $3k in subsidiaries or is there a limit due to my gross income? And is there a way to possibly appeal it this time due to the fact I wasn’t aware that I was eligible?
