Disclaimer…I’m pretty much clueless about the US healthcare system, insurance, and drug benefits.
I am a Canadian who works in the US. I opt out of health insurance in the US as I have coverage in Canada. I have drug benefits through my employer from Manulife.
I was recently diagnosed with a chronic disease that requires expensive drugs for treatment, $5k monthly. I will be on them for the foreseeable future. Manulife covers 85% and the drug manufacturer is picking up the remaining 15% (thank you evil pharmaceutical company π).
My question is…if I ever wanted to look for a new job, would a new employer or insurance company cover me? Or am I stuck with my current employer due to the cost of the drugs I need?
