If I live in one state and want to get a procedure done in another state, at a hospital of my choosing, how does insurance work in this case?
More specifically, let’s say I live in Connecticut and I develop cancer. Seeing that the U of Texas Cancer Center is the top-ranked hospital in the country for cancer treatments, I want to go there. What kind of insurance would cover that, considering this is a different state?
With that in mind, is it even possible to choose a specific hospital to treat you, assuming the cost of flying/staying in the new area is not an issue. Are there year-long waiting lists at the top hospitals, or is there some kind of under-the-table “pay-to-play” deal?
