How does health insurance for a “domestic partner” work? My girlfriend and I have been together for 9 years (lived together for 8 years) and I’m about to lose my Cobra insurance. Does her employer dictate if they will allow health insurance for a domestic partner, is it up to the insurance carrier(United healthcare) or the state (Florida)? I’m also looking at ACA coverage however it looks like her coverage will be superior than what ACA has to offer.
