So, I’ve had medicaid for several years now, but I just got a new job that pays more and I also get new health insurance through them. I cancelled my medicaid, but they said it’ll still be good through the end of the month. When I asked how that works since I’ll have that the same time as my new insurance, they said it would be like secondary insurance.
Well, I’ve got an appointment with a specialist next week, that I only found out recently is out of network for my new insurance, but is of course in network with my medicaid. And honestly, with my new insurance the deductible is so high I’d be paying out of pocket even if it was in network because it works such that the deductible has to be paid before they cover anything. (At least that’s how I understand it, maybe I just pay the copay, but I’ve got conflicting documents on how it works)
Am I able to just use my medicaid insurance for it this time since I still have medicaid? At this appointment I’m going to see if I can switch locations (they’re out of network for my new insurance… just at that location. They have other locations that are in network)
Or do I just use my new network with them and pay for it?
I just don’t know how that stuff works and if I’d get in trouble or be doing something wrong by using my medicaid. Honestly this deductible stuff also just confuses me anyway because I’ve never had a deductible before or even heard of secondary insurance.
