Empire BCBS question on behalf of a family member

Hello, I really hope you all will be able to help me.

I have an elderly family member who was a long time subscriber to Empire BCBS HMO with a medicare supplemental. She went to an MD’s appt just after the new year and was told she has no active insurance. After a 2-hour long phone call, it was discovered that she somehow did not auto re-enroll and now has no insurance. She was placed back on the insurance but it is effective Feb 01.

The issue is she has upcoming appointments and now has a new medical problem that I think may warrant urgent care but she is concerned about billing. I am very concerned with her health but she is stubborn.

Would she have no options to seek medical care until the start of next month? Or is there some sort of fix that could be done ASAP?

Thank you so so so much for any replies.
