Hi there – I recently had to have an abdominal CT scan done (with contrast) at the request of my GI doctor at the University of Chicago hospital. GI doc is there and had the scan done there outpatient. The scan was pre-approved by my health insurance, Aetna POS Choice II.
I just got the bill: almost $11,000 for the scan, my insurance covers 80% so I owe almost $2,000. This seems insane considering the average uninsured cost for this (from what I can find) tops out at like $3,000. What can I do from here? I cannot afford that, and I have more tests scheduled with the hospital next week. These tests are to evaluate a growth to see if it’s cancerous so I can’t exactly skip them. Thank you for your help.
