First Time Purchasing Health Insurance – Stimulus Money

I am currently thinking about getting Health Insurance for the first time as an adult and don’t know where to begin. I would like any tips or advice the wonderful people of this Reddit care to give. Thanks in advance.

My Tricky Situation

I am in a bit of a tricky situation. Currently I cannot work do to foot problems, a possible infection and several other health Issues.

I refuse to go on any sort of assistance as I consider my issues just debilitating enough that I cannot work, but not so bad that they keep me from living a relatively normal life. With some diagnosis, and treatment, I belive I could be working; or at least looking for work in the next 6 – 8 months.

I need to see an ENT specialist for a hearing test and to diagnose a possible infection. A podiatrist for my inability to walk without extreme pain, and a dermatologist.

I currently have the Stimulus money of 1400 dollars set aside for health insurance, but have been told time and time again that it probably won’t cover all specialists I need to see.

I am wondering If I should buy health insurance, now, or pay for my care out of pocket. Both seem very expensive. If I only have enough to cover a few months of care, then I’ll have to make a whirlwind tour of my local healthcare system.

I am also wondering about prescriptions and treatments, which in the past have cost nearly as much or more than the actual doctors visits. Insurance coupled with a prescription plan could break my budget.

All in all I am looking for some general advice as to how to go about getting healthy and taking care of my chronic issues with the money I currently have budgeted.
