Florida – 62 – insurance

My mom lives in Florida. She is 62 years old. She has no insurance and has been in the hospital for a number of weeks. She has under $500 to her name, lives in a small trailer that she owns, and hasn’t had a full time job since the 1980’s. Currently she is collecting my dad’s social security of $1,000 a month. He passed away about 20 years ago. She never has been diagnosed as disabled by any doctor but she has many medical problems I feel could classify at disabled.

I’ve tried contacting case management at the hospital but they haven’t returned my calls. I tried driving to Florida but they wouldn’t let me visit them due to covid.

I have a feeling she is going to need hospital coverage ( a given), rehabilitation, and then in home care for a period of time. Then if lucky a nursing home years later.

I’m not sure what to do to get her medical coverage. I know there are various state and federal programs but they are all in Greek to me.

I have a call with an attorney tomorrow to review her POA and Advanced Healthcare Directive forms.

Any insight into what coverage options she would have available and how to get them?

Thank you so much!
