Florida – Missed Open Enrollment and just realized how stupid I am. What can I do?

Hi all,

So kind of specific situation – basically I was on my dads health insurance (tricare) but I was dropped on my 21st birthday earlier this year because he hadn’t submitted paperwork to clarify I was still a fulltime student and eligible for tricare prime instead of young adult (We couldn’t afford for me to sign up for that). We’d been trying to get through to update my eligibility since then and… no dice. I only finally got in contact with them to launch an eligibility investigation the day before Christmas, but because of that I missed open season.

I’m kicking myself so hard because I only realized how incredibly stupid it was and now I just desperately want to be insured during the short term until I’m able to get a full time job after graduation in June/Open season in November)

I’m a full time student & I work a part time job (I’m not eligible for benefits through my job), and while my income is very low I don’t think I’m eligible for Medicaid since I have a lot saved up from working full time for about a year a while back. Are there any options for me to become insured, such as temporary health insurance or a qualifying life event, I can pursue to be covered for just 6-12 months?

I’m assuming all my major life events (moving into a new apartment & losing my insurance earlier in the year) are too far away to trigger a qualifying special enrollment period, and if that’s the case are there any trustworthy temporary insurance companies/options?

Sorry if this isn’t the right place or if there’s not a lot of research – this is just so severely out of my wheelhouse and I just really want some help :^(
