Gave out SSN and debit card to Fraudulent health insurer help

State: PA

Hello,

I fell for a marketplace scam. I searched health insurance, went on a site that looked promising and filled out some details. A minute later, I receive a call that is offering something that is almost too good to be true. I transfer to another agent who asks me more questions and tells me she can set everything up and that I would pay 151 upfront, then 97 a month. Unfortunately I was still hooked. She asked for my SSN and debit card, and I froze and… gave it. A second later I realized my mistake. I then asked if this was all legitimate, to which she said yes. Full red flag mode. Then, I get a call from my bank telling me there was suspicious activity on my account, and I told them to block it, because I understood too late that this was not real. However, the damage is done. My SSN is out there.

I sincerely hope this does not ruin my life, or my credit history. I have already filed a report to FTC and will call the IRS to let know tomorrow. I don’t know if I’ll be alright.

Please, do your research and go through only trusted gov websites and phones. Never, ever give your SSN out unless it is a person or a company you 100% trust. Even then, be wary. My bells rang too late.
