Getting on and off ACA

Hi

I’m a US citizen and planning on retiring and splitting time between the US and Asia (spring / summer in US / fall / winter in Asia).

Will likely be using ACA for heathcare and trying to figure out if there’s a way to not pay premiums during my time abroad and just pay for coverage while I’m in the US. Doesnt look like I can legitimately claim a change of residency each time I come back to the US (to enroll outside of annual enrollment).

I think I could sign up for coverage each year during open enrollment (starting Jan 1 the next year) and just cancel coverage each time head to Asia in the fall? Will probably still waste Jan/Feb premiums as I’d still be abroad but this is better than paying a full year.
