My husband and I are going to be trying for a baby later this year. We are currently each insured on our own employers’ insurance plans. Mine is quite good and should cover most pregnancy and childbirth related costs, I think it will cost between $300-1500 out of pocket in the end, so long as I stay within my own hospital system (I’m a nurse). But, I’m wondering if it would it be worthwhile to add me onto my husband’s insurance as a secondary insurance during open enrollment this fall, to get the most coverage possible during pregnancy and childbirth next summer (if all goes according to plan) with both insurances? Baby will probably be added to his insurance after it’s born as I will be changing jobs later in 2022 and therefore my insurance would be interrupted while his (and baby’s) would not. It’s also possible that I would remain on his insurance after baby is here, during my job change until my new company’s insurance will kick in.
