Glitch or gift? — My insurance’s allowable amount higher than Medicare’s “Physician Fee Schedule”?

Hi folks,

I just got put on my wife’s health insurance (United). When I submit out of network claims for my therapist (CPT Code 90834) the EOBs are saying the allowable amount is $200 (which is what my therapist charges) and its contributing the full $200 to my deductible.

Like many insurances, United says they determine the allowable amount based on medicare’s fee schedule. Medicare’s fee schedule in my area (10036/Manhattan NY) says the fee should be $111.

Is this a glitch that’ll catch up with me or is it just a very good insurance policy? Should I expect to really get $200 checks (less co-insurance) once I hit my deductible next month?
