Had a baby Dec 16th and want to switch from ACA spouse coverage to dependent only

As the title says, my wife and I had a baby on Dec 16th. At the time, my wife is the only one who had insurance through ACA even though we have 2 other children (and I am covered through my employer). My wife doesn’t really need coverage outside of the pregnancy so we were thinking of switching our ACA coverage to dependent only. If we did that inside the special enrollment period, would all my wife’s hospital expenses after Dec. 16th now not be covered? Asked another way, would it backdate our daughters coverage to Dec 16th, but also stop my wife’s coverage on the same date even though she would have still been in the hospital?

Would it be better to add dependent coverage to my employer plan and keep my wife on ACA for a few more months, then just cancel the policy?

Thank you for your help in advance!
