Health Insurance calling my injury work related – I disagree

I travel for work and spend most of my nights in hotel rooms. Last month I was injured when I fell off a hotel room bed and hit my face on a night stand. A few days later I called my insurance, explained the situation and was directed to go to urgent care. I was told that my share of the cost would be 15$. I paid that at the check in desk.

Fast forward a month and I get a letter from a firm representing the insurance company stating they need more information. I call, tell the story, and the woman on the phone insists it’s a work-related injury. The incident occurred outside of work hours and off site. I’m paid hourly (if that has any relevance).

I cannot have this go through as a work related injury. My work will lose clients as in my particular line of work our customers have very strict requirements in terms of safety ratings for contractors. Further, I don’t believe this has anything to do with work. If I’m driving to work and am injured, that has nothing to do with work even though I wouldn’t have been driving otherwise. I don’t see why being in a hotel for a job is any different. I was 30 minutes away from my job site.

What are my options here? Do I have any hope disputing this? Worst case scenario, I’ll just pay the clinic the 300$ they are now asking for out of pocket but I’d much rather have it processed through my insurance. Thank you in advance.

additionally, I live in MN, injury occurred in NY
