I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask so please let me know if I should be posting elsewhere. I left my job at the end of June and I remember HR informing me that my benefits would be terminated in July. I started my new job in July but my benefits from the new job wouldn’t kick in until October. I ended up needing to go to the hospital in mid September, I initially told the hospital that I didn’t have insurance because I thought the one from my previous employer had already ended and my new one hadn’t started yet. They ended up billing the physicians bill (separate from the ER bill) to my old insurance anyway and my insurance had paid a portion. When I looked at my insurance account, it says it’s active… I don’t currently see a claim for the $5k ER bill but the hospital said it was sent to my old insurance as well, they told me it helps to contact the insurance company to expedite the process. I’d really like to figure out what I owe sooner than later but I’m a little scared to call the insurance company in case they realize there was some kind of mistake when they paid the physicians bill. Has anyone had this happen? Is it possible my previous employer forgot to terminate my benefits?
