Hello All,
I am looking for a little help here with my health insurance company. I had emergency brain surgery at the end of last year for a large brain tumor. I had HMO insurance at the time and the hospital I was originally diagnosed at was in network and the hospital I was transferred to for surgery was in network, but the ambulance company my healthcare provider booked was out of network.
I got a rather large bill from the ambulance company, called my insurance company explained the situation, they reviewed the claim and said it would be 100% covered and they claim had been adjusted to cover the full amount. I have a formal statement from them and a voicemail from a representative back in early March stating it would be taken care of within 30 days and they had contacted the ambulance company on my behalf to let them know about the delay, but not to send the account to collections.
Fast forward to today, I just received a collections notice from a company for the unpaid ambulance bill.
In additional to this claim, I have 4 other open claim for much smaller amounts that are unpaid by the insurance as part of this whole process. The insurance company keeps saying it is the medical group not paying the bill, they have to open an investigation which usually takes about a week to see what happens, after the week time frame they come back and say the medical group didn’t pay the bill and they have 45 days to process it. They don’t process it again and the process starts all over.
I have record of 16 different phone calls with the insurance company over the last 6 months trying to get these 4 claims taken care of, but I keep getting the same run around.
Does anyone have any advice on on actually getting this stuff handled? I am at my wits end with the break down with my insurance company, but don’t know how to escalate this any further with them.
To add insult to injury, I am in the process of refinancing my house, if a collections notice hits my credit it is going to be a huge issue and cost me significantly more than just the claims outstanding.
Thanks in advance
