Help deciding between a couple different plans (Is HDHP/HSA worth it if no employer HSA contribution? NV)

For the next two years, I’m most likely going to be doing local travel nurse jobs in the same city. The company offers some health plans and moving forward I’ll be either extending with this company or potentially signing with another so I was also looking at purchasing my own insurance outside of them.

My main question is: are HDHP/HSA plans worth it if my employer is not contributing to the HSA? They offer one for $280/month and I am a young healthy 28 year old and I know the advantages of an HSA and how I’ll be able to keep the account if I don’t stay with this employer which is attractive.

They also have a mid-range PPO plan for $340/month which seems like alright coverage and more what I’m used to. The fact that it’s only $40 more seems like I wouldn’t really be getting the advantage of saving the difference into my HSA since they’re really similar price-wise?

I spoke to a broker about a fixed indemnity plan and for someone like me who rarely uses health services seems like it could be a good deal, it was $255/month but looks like I could be on the hook for some emergency situations but the plan does have an out-of-pocket max… feel a little sketchier about this one though.

Would love any insight here as I’ve had great insurance through previous employers so haven’t had to look into it this much in the past. Thanks!
