Help navigating clinical review/incorrect charges

Hello, I am hoping for advice on a situation with United (I am in NY). I had a pregnancy confirmation appointment with a new doctor on 1/21. She performed a urine test, had her nurse ask me basic intake questions, and spoke to me. She referred me to a lab for basic blood tests and gave me a referral for a 3rd party ultrasound clinic.

I really did not care for this doctor at all, and called her office shortly after the appointment to say that I will not move forward with her (and asked the receptionist to send records from my visit to a new doctor). As a result, I did not go for the blood tests and ultrasound that she wrote referrals for.

In mid-February, I received a bill for the visit. The bill included charges for a new patient visit, and an ultrasound. Again, no ultrasound was performed at this visit, nor did I go to the third party she referred me to for an ultrasound.

I called United to report the inaccuracy. They told me the doctor’s office would do a “clinical review”, and I should receive an updated bill from the doctor’s office in “a month or two”.

Today (approximately 1 month from reporting the inaccuracy to United) I received a new bill from the doctor for exactly the same amount. Instead of listing the billing codes, it simply says “encounter with (doctor) on (date).”

Does anyone have advice on what my next steps should be? Should I call United first thing tomorrow morning? Call the doctors office to ask if this bill was sent in error?

Thanks in advance, and I am happy to provide additional info if needed.
