So I recently got a new job and I’m in the process of enrolling in benefits. I have 3 options and I can’t really decide what’s best:
There’s a $1000 copay plan, and the monthly premium is close to $400, which I feel is pretty expensive.
Then there’s a deductible plan, where after $1500 insurance covers 80%, the monthly premium for this is $224
The last option is a $3500 deductible plan, insurance covers 100% after deductible, and the monthly premium is $148.
I’m a pretty young and healthy guy, so I don’t go to the doctors very often. The copay plan feels very expensive to me and I feel it puts a considerable dent in my paycheck. On the other hand $3500 feels like a high deductible for me. I recently had to go to an urgent care and I didn’t have insurance at the time, followed by a visit to a urologist, and the whole trip cost me close to $550, which is why thinking about the copay plan makes me think how much cheaper it would have been. Looking for advice from people who know better about this stuff.
