Helping an uninsured family member get insurance (WA)

My father-in-law is currently uninsured. His employer does not offer health insurance, and the few times he’s looked for a plan, he claims being quoted massive premiums that he cannot afford. Well, he has been neglecting trips to the doctor for years until last week and now there is a chance he has cancer. He now sees more urgency to get health insurance. He’s 61, so he does not qualify for Medicare

My wife and I will be helping him navigate and pick a plan, but neither of us have had to work with the open marketplace, as both of us have insurance options through our employers. All of his children are grown, so I believe he files as a single individual with an annual income pre-tax around 60K.

Its looks like he makes too much to get much in the form of financial assistance. I started browsing the State marketplace, but I don’t find much for his county, and sure enough most have premiums $700+ a month. Where does one begin, how would someone determine benefits pertaining to cancer treatments? Are there brokers out there that can assist with this process?
