I have a huge emergency here. I chose the worse insurance plan through the ACA marketplace. It is Bright Health Insurance. I need a psychiatrist because I’m bipolar and I need to have someone manage my medication. I’ve been taking the same medication for more than 10 years now, it works pretty well and I haven’t had to change anything. It’s literally all I need.
I was living in california prior to september 2021 and I had the best insurance I’ve ever had, which was medi-cal. I moved to texas and I make more money so I don’t qualify for medicaid.
So anyway, I got a referral from my pcp to see a psychiatrist, but literally EVERY psychiatrist that I have tried calling doesn’t answer their phones. I used the online provider search through Bright Health Care’s website. I called EVERY psychiatrist on the list for the entire dallas fort worth metroplex, none of them answered the phones. I’ve tried multiple times.
I need to change insurance to something more popular like united health care or blue cross or something. Something that actually has PSYCHIATRISTS that I can see. How can I change insurance outside of the “open enrollment?” Can I cancel my current plan and then enroll with a “qualifying life event” and just mark “my insurance is ending”? I really need to switch insurance providers because the one I have now doesn’t work for me.
