I don’t know if this is something I can ask here, but I have no idea where else I can go to try and get the information I need.
I have been scheduled for an outpatient surgery in April, and I just want to know what I will be expected to pay so I can properly budget for it. However, the CPT code I was given by the doctor doesn’t show up in any cost estimation calculators – the closest match is listed as an examination and estimates about $400 to $600, but the appointment I was booked for is a surgery. When I call the hospital providing the care, they said that the “Good faith estimate” was anywhere between $6,000 and $13,000 (Which is insane) and didn’t consider anything to do with my insurance. That’s just what they would bill out.
When I called my insurance company’s member’s line, they said the CPT code I gave them wasnt something they could find and referred to the CPT code for the “examination” and gave me the same estimate, but couldn’t give me any better information.
I just want to figure out what I might be liable for. I know what my deductible is/out of pocket max is and all that, but even if I was going to have to pay that, it’s still a huge difference between $400-$600 and a few thousand + any copay thereafter.
Can anyone offer insight on who I should call to figure this out? What kind of questions I should ask? If I even can figure this out?
Apologies if this isn’t the right place for this kind of question or if I picked the wrong flair – this has just been extremely frustrating.
edit: the automod asked for some info, so I’m 32, zip is 01605, income is 80k+
