I had a medically necessary surgery that I received pre authorization for due to the fact that there were no in network surgeons within 100 mile radius.
Now, insurance has paid the surgeon their in network amount. BUT the surgeon wants more and is balance billing me the remaining $20k that insurance didn’t pay. (I already paid a $10k deposit because I was out of network).
Is there anything that I can do to avoid paying back the $20k? I don’t understand how this is legal. My insurance told me my maximum out of pocket was $2k and I expected to pay that amount. :/
