I am a 23-year-old female living in Buffalo, NY. I went off of my mother’s plan a year ago since the insurance my (at the time, new) job offered was better. I am currently in a position where my job is affecting my mental health so badly that I just need to quit. I have been working on freelance projects and the goal is to work for myself anyway so I won’t be entirely unemployed. However, I don’t know what my options are for insurance, especially after the open enrollment period. From what I hear, It is very expensive to sign up independently, but I can’t go back on to my parents since it is after open enrollment right? It’s very frustrating that this is the only thing not allowing me to leave my awful job. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think I’d qualify for Medicaid because I live with my boyfriend and he makes a decent salary (why does American insurance not recognize domestic partnerships! It isn’t 1829!)
