I need help figuring out how health insurance works and whether or not I should get it.

Hey, I apologize if this breaks any rules, but health insurance here in Nevada seems particularly awful. I moved here 3 years ago, and was on insurance via employment benefits until last year. I never really go to the doctor’s office, but I’m concerned that I might have an STD and just want to get checked and get a physical. I’m seeing a bunch of the options are at minimum $300+ a month and apparently don’t cover you until you’ve spent $8000? I don’t understand the point of getting it if that’s the case. This is my first time actually shopping for health insurance and I’m not sure if I’m just misunderstanding something, or if it makes more sense to just not have insurance. Any and all help is appreciated.
