Insurance does not cover virtual therapy sessions, but covers in-person sessions with the same therapist???

Anyone have any information about adding virtual therapy sessions (behavioral health services) to my insurance plan? I have been seeing a therapist since last August (my brother died by suicide last summer) and her and I have built a great relationship through exclusively virtual sessions. My insurance has been waiving copays (due to covid) but that will stop on August 31st. At that point, the only way my insurance will cover sessions with my therapist is if I switch to in-person sessions. Unfortunately, this adds 1 hour of driving on Friday mornings, not really a great option.

I called the benefits management service about this, seeing if I could add virtual sessions to my plan. I emphasized how this adds lots of driving and how there really is no fundamental difference in virtual vs. in-person sessions (this may be where I am wrong). The representative I spoke with claimed there was no way to add something like that to my individual plan. What are my options? Surely, there is some work around or some way the benefits can be slightly altered for a strange case like this.

I have considered asking my therapist if we could just claim we are meeting in-person, but continue to meet virtually. However, this sounds a bit too much like insurance fraud to be an option.

I am just frustrated with this stupid system. Anyone have any tips about how to move forward? It would suck to start over with a new therapist at this point.
