Insurance in two states?(Freshman out-of-state college student)

Hi, peeps.

So here’s the thing. I’m moving to Philadelphia, PA in August for college. Now, my college has a pretty strict requirement regarding health insurance- that it has to cover more than just emergency care but also routine services, mental health, specialist visits, etc in the Philadelphia area. So, it seems I will have to enroll in a new health insurance plan based in PA starting in August (which I can do as I’m moving, a ‘qualifying life event’ apparently).

Now, I am already in another insurance plan- FEHB through my Dad, in the state of TX. Obviously, outside TX it will only cover emergency care and so won’t meet the college requirements, hence why I’ll have to enroll in a new plan.

So, if I enroll in a new insurance plan in PA, is it necessary to get off the plan in TX? If so, how?

(P.S. I really wasn’t too sure about the flair, sorry if it’s misleading).
