Insurance refusing to cover, dentist refusing to reduce- HELP

Hi guys! I’m unsure of what to do in this situation and thus am coming to reddit for help. Note that I live in BC, Canada so those are the country policies I’m under.

In June I had my wisdom teeth removed and was required to be sedated as I was high anxiety. I would not have gotten this procedure done without sedation being covered. Prior to the appointment, my dentist office had been in contact with the insurance company who had said over the phone that it would be covered. However, the insurance company is saying they told the dentist office it needed to submitted in paper form in order to be approved as this is their policy.

From what I understand at this point, this was not done until after my appointment when the insurance refused to cover the sedation. Yet, my dentist office claimed right up until I was put under sedation, that it was fully covered by my insurance and had been approved.

Now, I am being given my final notice to pay $441 to the dentist office as the insurance will not approve after the fact. They will not lower the amount either, I have asked. I don’t have this money to spare between my rent, bills, and student loan repayments and don’t know what to do. I’ve tried google but can’t find anything specific to my situation.

Is there anyone with any suggestions who can help me? I don’t know what to do and am afraid of what will happen when I can’t pay.

TIA for any help that can be given
