Insurance revoked coverage on an already paid for procedure. Please help

Hi all,

I had a medical test done for a potential cardiac complication. I did my due diligence and called before and after, confirming that the procedure would be covered by insurance. I even called the provider to confirm the insurance had paid.

They did; however, a few weeks ago, I got a sudden letter that said the coverage had been revoked and that I would now be responsible. I thought about appealing the decision, because I do believe I have grounds to fight this order. My problem is, when I called the provider to ask what my final bill would be, the customer service rep checked my account and said that the balance had been paid in full already (by insurance).

Here’s my conundrum: do I irritate the hornet’s nest by calling my insurance to ask for an explanation? At this rate, I’ve not had a new bill issued and it seems maybe this could just go away. If I call the insurance, I could see them revoking the previously paid payment and sticking me with the bill, which I would then have to contest.

However, if I don’t call, I could see them realizing their mistake later on and revoking the payment AFTER my “appeal this decision by” date already passed, which would stick me with an incontestable bill.

Any help / perspectives would be really appreciated.
