Insurance says I owe money, providers say it was covered

I’m mostly asking this here because the United Healthcare messaging system is absolutely horrible and I can’t seem to get a straight answer (no surprise there).

I had a series of appointments in May for a mild medical issue that eventually cleared up. At the time, my insurance covered all my appointments except for copay etc. In June I moved from WA to IL and got on a work health insurance with the same insurance co. Then in August I got a message saying that I owed a bunch of money because the insurance hadn’t actually covered any of the appointments, or had only partially covered them due to being “out of network” (even though it had all been in network when I was in WA). However, when I tried to pay them online, the site wouldn’t let me because it didn’t have all the information about the medical providers. I was able to pay one, which I did back in September, but today I got an email saying I was refunded because it wasn’t processed. I did contact my medical providers from WA and their records show everything was covered originally. The insurance doesn’t seem to to even have the information as to who provided the care, and the messaging system is so terrible that I can’t get a straight answer as to what exactly they need from the provider in order to get the right information for their records.

I guess the question is, do I owe money? Should I even bother trying to fix all of this, considering the one bill I tried to pay was never processed? Is there some specific question to ask or way to go about fixing this?
