As the title says, do some DHMO’s refuse to coordinate benefits with other DHMO’s. The details are below.
My grandmother has both a Dental HMO as part of her medicare advantage plan and a group policy DHMO from work. I recently called the group policy provider (safegaurd by metlife) and a customer service representative told me that they do not coordinate benefits with another HMO. That seemed a bit unusual so I asked for a copy of the form/policy that determines coordination of benefits and the CSR said that she is repeating what her supervisor told her and she does not know about a written policy or form. This seemed odd to me, so I continued to question the CSR which proved to be unproductive…
Unfortunately the papers I have do not say anything regarding coordination of benefits. And the documents link on metlife’s website shows up empty for the group plan my grandma has.
I get the feeling I am being BS’ed by a shitty CSR but don’t know enough about this to be certain.
I would appreciate any guidance you guys/girls can give me.
