is this normal? Billing receptionist refusing to schedule sterilization surgery while insurance is reprocessing two claims.

Hello all,

So I went to see a new OBGYN (who’s awesome by the way) and he agreed to give me a bi salp and our target date is December so that I have plenty of recovery time (I work in public education and we have a two week break).

He agreed to this during my first visit with him which was a routine yearly wellness visit. I had two bills from this visit but both were denied by insurance because my primary insurance actually had me listed as secondary. I called my insurance, they fixed this, are coordinating benefits which will take 7-8 days and they’re reprocessing the claims which will take up to 30 days.

Despite me never refusing to pay a bill nor receiving a bill for these services this lady at the front desk is refusing to let me schedule anything until the two claims are paid for. Which by that point the December date will have passed. I am so frustrated because she’s been rude and it feels like she’s just not listening to me. Not to mention I’m having difficulties telling her that I need a bi salp not a tubal and that my insurance does in fact cover it (I’ve double check, given the procedure number and ICD 10 codes to them and everything.) But she just doesn’t believe me.

I have no idea what to do. I tried calling to talk to her about it yesterday but she told me she has more important things to do first and told me she’d call me back, which she never did.

What can I do?
