Life changing event -maternity leave

I recently had a baby and as such I’m able to make changes to my health care plan. The change to the insurance is the date of birth of my child. So I’m canceling my coverage effective 11/29 and my husband is adding us to his coverage under a family plan as of 11/29. My coverage costs about $550+ a month and my husband will pay about $150 a month to cover all of us. Since I’m going on maternity leave, I’d have to pay the $550 out of pocket -so this is why we decided to make the change in coverage.

My question is -if I term my coverage effective 11/29 (date of birth of child) -am I not covered for that day at the hospital? How does that work? Do I need to quickly get the billing switched to my husband’s coverage for that day? My coverage was single with a $400 deductible. The new family coverage under my husband’s plan has a $1000 deductible. Would I be expected to pay the $1000?

Not sure if I’m over analyzing how this works! I just don’t want a surprise huge maternity bill because I’m trying to save a few hundred dollars.

Anyone have a similar situation?
