Life changing event

My son was born in November and I have 60 days to make a change to my insurance due to a life changing event.

My plan is to cancel my insurance and go on my husband’s with the baby. However his insurance says they can’t add me unless I have a loss of coverage. They said they can add the baby.

I thought when there is a life changing event you could make any changes to the plan that you wish? Is that not the case?

I basically would just need my insurance plan to be cancelled by my employer but I don’t want to tell them to do that in case his employer for some reason says I can’t be added. We sent all of our paperwork in within 10 days of the life changing event (11/29) but with Covid and the holidays no one has entered the change. It’s getting ridiculous.
