Losing my health insurance soon, no idea how the any of this works or what a deductible even is…

So, this is VERY outside my wheelhouse, and I am going to be losing my insurance soon and it fucking terrifies me.

I’m going to be switching up my job to work in my chosen field during hours that aren’t shit, but the only insurance coverage I will have is VA coverage and since part of the coverage I need is mental health, I need to get as far from the VA as humanly possible so I don’t end up dead in a parking lot (which happens so frequently the news just stopped reporting on it) and can continue to get actual support and progress.

Good news: I currently have a good therapist and psychiatrist.

I need to figure out how to decode this shitstorm of a system that is the US health insurance. I don’t even think I understand what a deductible even is. Like, I have insurance but it doesn’t pay until I pay for the insurance monthly AND most of the treatment??? Why would I get insurance where I need to pay $2000 and $250 a month for like 4 months before it starts to take effect? Why can’t I just see a doctor and pay the reasonable rate the insurance company pays instead of all this hoop-hopping?

I literally just need something to help cover my weekly therapist (treating PTSD from combat overseas) and my monthly psychiatrist/psychology (whichever is the title of the person who controls my perscription).

I just have no idea what the hell to do or where to start…

Seriously though, I can explain complex science concepts like cellular biology, biochemistry, physics, and chemistry to middle schoolers, but I can’t decide this bullshit.
