Marketplace Won’t Give Daughter Insurance, But She Needs a Sick Visit

Marketplace Won’t Give Kids Insurance, but Daughter Needs a Sick Visit

On my phone so if the formatting is weird, that’s why.

So, my husband lost his job and I am now working while he takes care of our one year old and 2 month old. I work for a small accounting firm that doesn’t offer insurance, so we applied for a marketplace plan. Well, because the US healthcare system is moronic, they allowed my husband and I to have insurance through the marketplace but not our children (wtf?) and said that maybe they’d be approved for Medicaid but we would be told for two months and until then our children are just uninsured which is ridiculous. Well, our daughter happened to have a non-serious medical issue so we have an appointment at our pediatrician tomorrow morning, but SHES STILL UNINSURED. And so IF they don’t qualify for Medicaid, we can put them on our plan and I think it might be retroactive? But if not, and they are approved for Medicaid, they HAVE to use it or we lose our entire tax premium which we need or we can’t afford health insurance. And the pediatrician doesn’t accept Medicaid because NO ONE in my area takes freaking Medicaid.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Like will the doctor give us a discount because they literally can’t be insured until we hear from Medicaid which could be months?

Also I live in GA if that matters.

I’m so frustrated about the Medicaid thing in general because we love our pediatrician and won’t be able to keep going to them if they end up having to use Medicaid.
