Illinois, marketplace insurance, in-network dermatologist.
I previously saw dermatologist for a single item of concern on my lips. Referred by PCP (as required by dermatologist practice). Follow up visit did not require separate referral and insurance covered, subject to my specialist co-pay. Now I have an appointment next month for full body skin exam. No family or personal history of cancer but I’m over 60, with fair skin that burns and very freckled, lots of sun exposure and childhood of no sun protection and blistery burns. My insurance documents (evidence of coverage and summary of benefits) have the language of the ACA regarding preventative care and screening, and skin cancer screening is not on the long list of Covered Preventative Services for Adults. Although “Skin cancer behaviorial counseling” for ages 10-24 is…. Too late now.
So what’s my strategy? Anyone with experience here? Best proper code for them to use? (I’m sure they are well-aware of this).
I’m having the screening regardless but would like to get it covered to extent possible.
