Medicaid Eligibility for Recent Divorcee

Hi everyone,

My mom finalized a lengthy divorce earlier this year (2021) that ended up selling the joint home, which she now has a sizable lump sum in her account from the settlement. She was on Medicaid previously, but she has since moved states and wants to re-enroll in Medicaid there. It is my understanding that because she has to report the house sale on her taxes, she will be ineligible for Medicaid in 2022, but should eligible for Medicaid in 2023 since she does not work and income for 2022 will be $0.

Please let me know if my understanding is correct, I appreciate the insight!
