Medicare questions

I’m confused about Medicare, to say the least! I live in Pennsylvania, and I’ll be working for at least two more years, possibly more, with health insurance through work. My understanding was that you HAVE to apply for at least Part A within months of turning 65–even if you have health insurance because you’re still working–or else you incur penalties when you eventually apply. Yet I just got off the phone with a Medicare agent/rep, and he said I do not in fact have to apply for part A as long as I have coverage with work. Also, he wasn’t much help with my questions about Medigap (where do I get it?). And the Advantage plan. What’s that? So after that csll, plus the wait, I still don’t understand what to do. Can ANYone here help me, guide me, send me in the right direction? Thank you.
