Meeting out-of-pocket before deductible

This will be my first experience with this happening and I’m hoping someone can tell me what to expect.

My coverage is HDHP with Anthem Blue Cross for myself and my spouse. My spouse has several chronic conditions and was diagnosed with cancer last year.

Deductible: $2800 individual / $3200 family

Out-of-pocket: $3200 individual / $6400 family

My spouse takes several expensive medications which apply to the OOP but not the deductible. As of today, he has met $3150 out of $3200 toward the individual OOP, but only $1400 out of $2800 toward the deductible.

So after his appointment today, his OOP will be met entirely. Do we still continue to pay out of pocket though toward the deductible or are we done paying for him this year? I asked a representative at Anthem as well as one at my company HR and nobody understands my question.

Also to be more specific, the plan documents say the deductible is ‘1600/individual or 3200/family (2800 per person in the family)’, which I find confusing, but can confirm when I go into my account on Anthem’s website, it is $2800 for my spouse.
