Misinformed by my insurance

I had spoken with someone over the phone with Anthem (my insurance provider) about costs of an MRI. They had told me that the MRI would not count towards my deductible, but rather, I’d pay a flat rate of 20% of the allowable charges. That number would be right around 360 dollars, which is reasonable.

I went for the MRI and got slapped with bills equaling over $1000 between the imaging facility and whoever interpreted the MRI. This capped out my deductible which I was trying to not do until next year (other medical issues I wanted to get it all done in one year for financial reasons). This foiled my plans to do medical procedures next year, and I’ve now just wasted an entire year waiting to get medical stuff done. Now I’ll have to reach my deductible next year as well.

Sorry if this isn’t the right sub for this sort of thing, but my insurance company has been of no help, claiming the opposite of what I was told. I’m a little irritated with the hospitals and insurance companies and just the American health system in general. Please advise
