Moving to Canada, Need Health Insurance for 3-Month Waiting Period

Hi! I’m a U.S. health insurance broker and am passing along this question because I’m unsure how to help my client.

They work for a small business in the U.S. that doesn’t offer health insurance so they have an active Marketplace policy. They have moved to Canada permanently, and want to know what coverage to get during the 3-month waiting period until they are eligible for government health insurance. I’ve verified that their Marketplace policy does not cover anything in Canada. They will continue on with their U.S. employer, so they can’t ask their Canadian employer to help them (I’m not even sure if that’s a thing).

Who are the private health insurance carriers in Canada that they should look into? I’m not licensed in Canada, so not trying to get any commissions. I just want to give accurate info to my client (also happy to refer them to a knowledgeable Canadian broker). I assume this is a weird market that must exist since anyone moving to Canada probably does need some major medical coverage during those 3 months.
